A Continuation: a Minor Rant Against Safari

I habitually use an outside download manager.  In fact, I purchased GetRight quite a few years ago.  I tried the free version and found the pro version’s options useful, as well as being grateful for a tool that simply worked.  One thing it does is protect you to some extent against unauthorized downloads.  Things can slip past in strange ways–but GetRight with IE is nearly unbeatable.

There is a point to this.  In Safari as it is you can’t protect yourself against unauthorized downloads.  And it can drop executable files on your desktop that will execute the next time you boot your machine.  The exploit has been demonstrated, and Apple “plans a fix”.

In the meantime, don’t use Safari, and I do recommend a download manager as an added layer of protection for the home user.  There are some other benefits, particularly if you’re using dialup.  Oh, and for that matter, there are all these beautifully new file-streaming programs out there? and GetRight was there first.
