On Another Note: Military Strategy

Without going into too much detail, I did once get a perfect score on the Stanford-Binet, the Armed Forces version of it in effect in early 1971; it was supposed to be impossible to get a perfect score because teams of scientists in combination with computers…blah, blah, blah.  So I got some access into military thinking.

The US is investing in anti-ship missiles again.  This is an interesting insight on suspicions, since currently Russia and the United States are the only nominal (military) naval presence and have been since around the end of World War II.  At the time I left the service in 1975, there was no intention of further heavy investigation into such technology until such a time as a third and very much feared party might appear on the scene.  The kind of perspective this lends on current political tensions and positions, particularly re. China and “face” is both interesting and a bit frightening.

The translation of “face” as “status” is a tad bit inaccurate to someone who spent a while growing up in the Far East.
