As far as today went…

I mostly did computer maintenance and suchlike.  You’d almost think I was a mainframe computer operator for nearly ten years, among other things.  Boot time on the XP Pro Machine is back to about 3 minutes (I’m doing everything including running Open DNS for security)…and on the XP Home, 32 bit, it’s probably about half that.  And here you thought I was joking about being a compulsive downloader.  Heh.

I was thinking earlier about the ‘good old days’ of autoexec.bat and config.sys.  You got to write your own startup files, you see.  And correct the drivers.

…And we were too goddam lazy to write a decent platform.  We being millions of us.

By the way, I’m allergic to the phrase “old school”.
