Trump Acting Like a Showbiz Type

Trump has shown a complete, repeated inability to anticipate others’ reactions.  Negative reactions do tend to spread more rapidly than positive ones; he has publicly repeated that “Any attention is good attention.”  That’s a ‘showbizness’ strategy and tactic that has always eventually backfired according to my memory, although Rush Limbaugh has had quite a run. The National Enquirer claims Trump’s IQ is 156.  Since IQ tests are based on pattern recognition and manipulation, we have considerable divergence between two views.  We also–no matter whether Trump is a clown or not–have a sizable segment of the population [I’m one, remember] which has declared itself unbelievably stupid.  Either it’s the ones supporting Trump or the ones against it.  I mean him.  Trust me, I’m not calling him a complete idiot.  Really I’m not.

[reaction to a comment at https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-again-criticizes-sessions-this-time-over-fbi-leadership-1501084563 .  I’m showing the link because it is Wall Street Journal and it may be a subscribers-only article.  Trump lining up another symbolic sacrifice has been variously covered in other publications and the bare news itself can be obtained.  After, mind you, reading as much about the subject as possible and then attempting to discard inconsistencies which were because of the accuracy/inaccuracy of an inevitably biased ‘reporter’.

What Trump frankly reminds me of most is a bad (as in poor) actor becoming a bad (as in morally and in performance and in credibility and consistency) politician who is frankly interested (to my eyes) in only himself, his experience and what pleases him.  Anyone who disagrees with him is automatically, obviously wrong.

This brings to rise the notion of a head of government who not only cannot take criticism but cannot tolerate advice, whose ego is so fragile he must assure himself each morning that he is “The Donald” in front of the mirror.  A man whose advisors and assistants have repeatedly announced “doesn’t drink or use (recreational) drugs” but has shown up on more than one recording very obviously very, very drunk (once was with the Patriots, no less, with him obviously using the podium to maintain his balance).

And then let us note his supporters, who instantaneously label anything that might even be interpreted (The Declaration of Independence being the latest example) as critical of him, let alone removing him from office.  Most don’t even remember that most of the Republican party was extremely not in his favor, although all of them “won the election” now.

Alternative truths, indeed.  “All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.”
